ICC Organizes 2nd Batch of #HourOfCode Activity
ICC, in cooperation with the Hour of Code global movement, organized the 2nD Batch Hour of Code event last February 4, 2017 in ICC branches in Cavite & Las Pinas. The Hour of Code, a global movement with headquarters in Seattle Washington USA, reaches over 100 million students in over 180 countries. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science. Students and teachers can choose a variety of activities. For ICC's Hour of Code activity, ICC students invited relatives & friends within their communities to introduce them to Computer Science & Computer Programming using the Javascript language. The invited students wrote their first line of code with the assistance of ICC faculty members and students. Aside from writing their first line of code, the activity seeks to show the students that the basics of computer science help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills. In the United States, celebrities and tech visionaries support the Hour of Code. Every Apple Store in the world hosted an Hour of Code in 2014 and 2015. Hour of Code has been featured on Apple, Amazon, Google, Youtube, Yahoo, Bing and Disney homepages. Hollywood celebrities like Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Alba and tech leaders Sheryl Sandberg (FaceBook), Bill Gates (Microsoft) and Jack Dorsey (Twitter) have talked with classrooms in live video chats. President Obama wrote his first line of code to kick off Hour of Code in 2014. The Hour of Code event is also part of ICC's National Service Training Program (NSTP). The annual activity is aimed at enhancing the civic consciousness of the students by developing the ethics of service and patriotism.
